Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)

For flexure geometry and high precision machining, DSM uses wire EDM. Electrically conductive materials are cut with a precision wire removing material through a non-contact electrical discharge erosion process. Since the wire's position and perpendicularity to the part are computer numerically controlled and monitored with sophisticated electrical measurements, a relatively high level of precision and accuracy may be achieved.

• Typical tolerances are within ± 0.00254 mm (0.0001 in.)
• Finishing passes leave extremely smooth surface finishes
• Material hardness does not affect the cutting ability of the machine. DSM can cut exotic alloy, carbides, tungsten, nickel alloys, etc.

CNC Milling

In CNC milling a cutting tool is held in a rotating spindle and travels through the machine's enclosure using computer numerical control. Metal alloys, plastics, and other types of materials can be machined with a very high degree of precision and repeatability.

• Typical tolerances are within ± 0.0127 mm (0.0005 in.)
• Parts with very complex geometries can be machined quickly, allowing for rapid prototyping
